The worshipping of the River Ganga gets to a crescendo during the Aarti of the river. The Aarti is an offering of fire, lit as a lamp or as a flame to the river. At the time of dusk, small lamps are floated on the surface of the river as a symbolic acknowledgment of the greatness of the river.
